The Mary Forryan Centre was opened by Bishop Malcolm McMahon OP, Bishop of Nottingham and Mrs.Sandra Francks, Mayor of Hinckley on the occasion of the SPANNED Annual Mass at St.Peter’s Parish, Hinckley, on September 25 2010, at which 400 people were present.

The plan to build a new parish centre for St.Peter’s Community reaches back nearly ten years, when the existing building was found to be too small, ageing and only providing the opportunity for one activity to take at once. The echoes within it were always a particular source of irritation! Several schemes were proposed and rejected for a variety of reasons and the community has endured many ‘down’ days and huge disappointments over the past four years in particular, but at last we have managed to provide a facility of which we are immensely proud and hope that you will be too. After the death of our beloved Mary Forryan, the ‘mother of the parish’, in August 2008, it was decided that the existing building and any future one on the site, should be named in her honour, as her contribution to our community over so many years, was simply immeasurable. The purpose of the new building is to provide a place where meetings and conferences can be held in comfort, leisure and young people’s activities can take place, along with our newly-established Pre-School, and in which people can gather in larger numbers at the same time. The portable stage should provide many happy hours of entertainment as well. We hope that it will be of use not only to our own community but to the wider Churches Together family and the community of the town. A management committee has been established to supervise the day to day running of the facility and to make sure we all look after it. Much fund-raising is still needed to pay for it but we hope to complete payment for it in the not too distant future. Thank you so much to everyone and anyone who has played any part whatsoever in bringing us to this happy day.
